I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. It’s been a terrible growing season in Victoria. Not a very warm summer and far too much moisture. A stark contrast to the last decade.
It’s Autumn and by this time last year I had harvested at least 22kg of tomatoes by now. I’ve had a cereal bowl ripen so far this season.
I’ve done all I can do. I’ve monitored and restricted my watering regime, I’ve cut back and pruned like never before. It’s all up the the weather now.
Although some plants have struggled, my climbing French pumpkins are thriving.
Do you need a good recipe for green tomato pickle? My Mum makes a killer batch… unfortunately I’ve never had access to decent quantities green tomatoes!
Same problem here in California over our summer months ago. Never got hot enough long enough. The tomatoes were just sad and stunted.
Hi !
Have you tried testing your soil for pH, nutrients, phosphor etc ?
The only thing thriving around my cabin is Black Currant Swhen it isn’t covered in snow October -> May. ;)
Don’t give up just yet. I have doug up and hung tomato plants over a fence and they still ripened (with roots in the air, no kidding!). You just never know.
I’m in Ballarat and have had a lean year in the food garden – masses of greenery & little fruit & veg. I noticed not too many bees this year – too much water, too little sun, too few bees?
Yep, we had a crap tomato season in NZ too. Way to much humid weather, and rain-then sun. Ekk. We got lots of tomatoes at the start of the season, but then they all got blight :-( Ah there’s always next year eh?
